Can You Help? The Ukrainian balloonists would like to make an appeal to the International Ballooning community.
Tragedy struck the hearts of balloonists in the Ukraine on 17 June when an explosion occurred in a nearby chemical depot and fire spread to the premises of Spart-Aeros used by the Ukrainian Ballooning Federation as our main offices and ballooning center. Unfortunately, the building was completely destroyed (See HERE) along with 12 balloons, nearly 75% of those in the Ukraine. Luckily, there was no loss of life and nobody was hurt. However, all that we had built up, including our training facilities, has been destroyed and unfortunately, balloons in the Ukraine are only insured for flight risks so this is a tremendous blow for us. We ask for your help to rebuild our ballooning activities. If you can donate any second-hand, old, or obsolete Balloon Equipment, even equipment in need of repair, we would be extremely grateful. We can arrange for collection from the European Championships in Vilnius and possibly other venues and events.
We ask you to please look in your hearts, your garages, barns, and sheds, for anything you no longer need that could be given a second lease of life and help breathe life back into ballooning in the Ukraine.
Any correspondence, requests for more information, or offers can be directed to balloons@ua.fm
